JAMBO JAMBO

Got inspired to post by George Saunders best selling book of short stories out recently.  Mesmerized by an interview on Charlie Rose, bought it and was a bit shocked with the first story.  Point is his style just seemed perfect to translate to this.  Experimenting.

After the e-mails got more numerous and lengthy, my son Ryan started this website and my sister Theresa Klepinger organized the material.  A nice welcome home present that everyone can enjoy.  Many thanks for this kindness and hard work. And special thanks to Beverly,  who never gave up photographing everything feverishly,  no matter how small or far away, with amazing results seen here.

Finally,  Bill and Debbie Rooney basically planned our entire trip almost to the minute,  which required significant numbers of e-mails and phone calls,  and made arrangements for a number of special experiences.  Here is a response to my thanks for their input:

Bev and Dave-

The wonderment and joy that has emanated from your posts is all the thanks I need.

I particularly enjoyed the mind pics that came to me as your words put me right back there on that same rutted road; the sweet smell of the grasses; the dull bluish tint in the folds of the escarpment; and ever and ever- the hypnotic sounds.  Don’t be shocked if you just can’t get it across to those at home:  how big; how beautiful; how self-renewing-  how your personal view of the world, at a minimum, has a larger horizon.  They will have to personally experience it-  all we can do is inspire them to do so.

There’s an  old saying that when your travel documents arrive for your first trip to Africa, there should be an attached warning: THIS ADVENTURE CAN BE ADDICTIVE.
